Hi ALL,

It was a wild weekend of shows in NYC. The weather turned real nice and more people were out because of it.

Friday nite at the WRECK ROOM was astounding. The crowds keep getting bigger every week here. People are finding out where it is and how easy it is to get to. LADY ANNE led off the evening with some of her rockabilly charm and was followed by the hard acoustic rock of THE YEARS BEST from Vermont. Then it was the return of THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE and what a treat that was. These guys constantly win over new fans every time they play. The FRANTIC ROMANTIX had some health issues so the boys played a longer set. They are AMAZING! They will be at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD every Sunday in April so don't miss 'em. Then the estrogen driven rock of VIVA LA VENUS from North Carolina capped off the evening.

On Sunday the weather held and the bands did too at OTTO'S SHRUNKEN HEAD. THE YEARS BEST were eaten up and spit out by the city (lost ATM card, car troubles, lost cell phone...) and returned to Vermont and did not make it to Sunday's show. That's alright because the GENTLEMEN CALLERS were in town from North Dakota and they were more than willing to take up the slack. (They'll be at CBGB's on 3/15, TRASH on 3/16 and THE WRECK ROOM on 3/17). VIVA LA VENUS ate up the city and enjoyed it as they closed out their weekend here with another kick-ass set. Then EDDIE LEE PRIEST and his band SWAMP MUD took the stage with their down home, 2-guitar-driven swampmud boogie. MARC BERLEY BAND rounded out the band portion of the nite.

BLONDE & BLUE had to cancel so KENN ROWELL stepped up to the plate to combine the NYC UNPLUGGED portion of the nite with the "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM and played his ass off for 2 hours. Mixing in BAGHDADDIO tunes and honoring requests while indulging in massive quantities of RED BULL and Vodka. He left the stage drained. He will be performing on St. Patty's Day at a benefit at the HILTON HOTEL in midtown for guest of honor BILL CLINTON.

This week is ST. PATRICK's day and there are 3 really good shows to go to. THE X's will be at CONTINENTAL with MURPHY's LAW and it will probably be packed to the gills. Likewise for BOBBY STEELE's 50th birthday show at CBGB's, which is a benefit for him and a reuniting of his band THE UNDEAD.

But for a more relaxed version of ST. PATTY's Day come out to THE WRECK ROOM in beautiful Bushwick Brooklyn. There are 3 rooms - you will be able to breathe and reach the bar, play pool and where, starting at 9pm, check out some kic-ass rock'n'roll from the GENTLEMEN CALLERS - before they head back to North Dakota - BLOOD FROM STONE, the COLD HAND COLLECTIVE plus the return to NYC from Texas of NOPE (produced by RICHARD LLOYD of TELEVISION). Oh, they'll also be at TRASH on Saturday.

On Sunday, come on down to OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD for WIND DOWN SUNDAY - where we wind down from a rough weekend and prepare for another week in HELL! Starting at 6pm with the country sounds of former Glen Campbell sideman COUNTRY JOE & HIS OUTLAW BAND followed by the insane rock of INFRADIG. Then members of KING NORRIS (Fred Norris' band) will have their own band ALIEN CANOPY rock you before the JIMI HENDRIX tribute band THE RUSSELL BOOKER EXPERIENCE (featuring BILLY FICCA from TELEVISION.) Then NOPE will finish off their weekend in NYC before heading back to Texas. Then the best young drummer NYC has seen in awhile, SAMMI, will be back with her band FRANKIE & HIS FINGERS. You gotta check these guys out, they'll blow you away.

Then for NYC UNPLUGGED - the core of NYC's best bands - will start off with VAL IN TIME and followed by a special set by THE NYC BLUES DEVILS as they start working on their live performances of some new songs along with some old favorites (wait a minute , all their songs are old favorites). And as usual KENN ROWELL will lead the "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM, because it's so fucking wild even I don't know who'll show up and play.

Hope to see you there and please be careful because ST. PATTY's DAY is also Amateur nite for all the wanna-be Irishmen out there.

See ya soon.

Take care,

WOOD
