Hi All,

It's been a wild week. I finally got to see THE NEW YORK DOLLS in their new incarnation. I was around when they wore dresses back at MAX's KANSAS CITY. I used to do security for JOHNNY THUNDERS in his solo stuff and when he was in GANG WAR with WAYNE KRAMER. I was supposed to see them in Florida but the hurricane cancelled their show. So when I found out last Sunday that they were supposed to play at CBGB's on tues., and it was sold out, I had to go. Luckily for me, I've done so many shows at CB's that I was comp'd in. THANK YOU CBGB's.

No sooner was I in the back stage area, I ended up helping out with security. It was a madhouse, but after doing this with the DEAD for so long, this was easy.

The SHE WOLVES opened the show and they were on point. DONNA was scorching on guitar and the rhythm section of TONY and GYDA held down the fort.

An excellent appetizer, but I came for the main course and what a course it was. For about 90 minutes, they came out and played their asses off. DAVID was as skinny as ever and his voice was as raspy as mine. SLYVAIN has lost a little weight and looked good. (He had put on a few in the off years, but who hasn't? - especially me.) The new bass player is a good friend, SAMI YAFFA and he sounded like he was meant to be in this band. STEVE CONTE was on guitar, and while JOHNNY was, well JOHNNY, it was refreshing to hear the clarity of the old tunes. Boy were they ever sharp. With BRIAN "FANCYPANTS" DELANEY on drums and an old BANSHEE OF BLUE - BRIAN KOONEN on keys they whipped thru a bunch of the old favorites and broke out some of the new stuff they've been working on. That's right, somewhere in JUNE there will be a new NEW YORK DOLLS release. The crowd was packed in like sardines and I was only able to get photos from the side. After the set, backstage was a nuthouse and we quickly hustled the boys and entourage out the back door and over to the gallery next door. It was 2 days before my hearing was back to what passes for normal for me, but it was worth every bit. I WILL see them again and hope alot of the new bands out there check them out and see how it's supposed to be done!

On Friday I had a good show at THE WRECK ROOM (see photos). MJ & THE HERETICS opened up the night and Mr. McGREGOR warmed up the crowd for CANDY FROM STRANGERS. RUBY & the boys from SAN FRANCISCO played a terrific set and led into SKEEVOTZ and their high energy set. CHARM SCHOOL followed and with their new bass player sounded better than ever. The nite closed out with MAYSTAR from SAN DIEGO.

On Sunday at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD, MAYSTAR opened up the nite and closed out their weekend in NYC with a solid set. BONGO JONES tore up the room before the FAME JUNKIES with guest guitarist TRENT played a tight set. CANDY FROM STRANGERS finished off their 5 shows in 5 nites NYC tour with a commanding set and left it all on the stage. THE MIGHTY AFRODITE was there and gave them a full 2 tits up review. They had brought a friend with them from SF, Michael, who runs a club called KIMO's (a great place to play or see a show if you ever go out there) and he was asking me to send more bands out his way and he'll be sending me more bands. It's nice when both coasts can exist together.

Then our band-in-residence, THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE, made their return to the OTTO's stage and they were so good that they prompted THE MIGHTY AFRODITE to get down to bra and panties. Ah yes, another good show. AFRODITE also did the same for the NEW YORK NO STARS in their unplugged show and as JIMI BONES (their guitarist) said "Oh well, now I know I'm at a FRANKIE WOOD show - naked women, free rock'n'roll and a great crowd!"

We ended the evening with birthday boy KENN ROWELL and PHIL McGAUGH leading the "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM. Speaking of KENN, there was a great article about him in the NY DAILY NEWS "PEOPLE WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE" article about his BLANKFEST shows and how he hands out all the blankets to the homeless who really need them. Great job KENN!

This week on Friday at the WRECK ROOM we have COUNTRY JOE and HIS OUTLAW BAND, FUTURE 86, EDEN PROJECT (in their only show where they aren't opening for STACI GUNNS), the FRANTIC ROMANTIX and AMERICAN GRAVEYARD DANCE.

Sunday's show at OTTO's will be to help CHUCK (ROOTS ROCK REBEL) celebrate his birthday. We'll start at 6pm with Mr. McGREGOR, the BAGHDADDIOS, FLACK BLAMINGO (with Billy Ficca from TELEVISION on drums). Then it'll be the band-in-residence THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE leading to the birthday boy's band ROOTS ROCK REBEL. They will be followed by Chuck's other band MAGGES. This is a traditional GREEK band complete with bazoukis, percussion, OUZO, the mesmerizing Belly dancing of JAMEELA and more OUZO. JOHN LAW (BFZ and THE X's) will follow and then we'll have some surprise guests.

So come on out and enjoy a GREAT weekend of ROCK'n'ROLL!

See ya there,

WOOD
