Hi All,

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. I know everywhere I was at this weekend, people were having a great time.

On Friday at THE WRECK ROOM we started with the rock of the LIVING PROOF BAND and then we switched things around and had HOLLOW play because one of the FRANTIC ROMANTIX guitarists was still en route from Baltimore. HOLLOW played with the drummer from FRANTIC ROMANTIX because they are in the process of looking for a new one and they happened to know him. They clicked well together. Then it was time for LEWD BUDDHA and did they ever kick ass (see PHOTOS!). They had a friend join them for a few songs and the 3-guitar attack was incredible, especially when they did "WHIPPING POST". The FRANTIC ROMANTIX closed out the nite. And all night the front room was rocked by the tunes of DJ Bobby Lundo.

On Sunday it was Easter but that didn't stop people from having fun at the BEST TIKI BAR in NYC - OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD. We started with the country/rockabilly sounds of COUNTRY JOE & HIS OUTLAW BAND leading to the rock'n'roll of UNDERSEA EXPLOSION. Then we had the Japanese punk band UZUHI play an unplugged set with just the singer and guitarist. They questioned whether you could be punk without a drummer or a bass player and then proceeded to show that, if you're good enough, it CAN be done and they DID IT! They ended with the FRANK SINATRA (PAUL ANKA) song "MY WAY", but they did it in Japanese and it was AWESOME. They started it a cappella and the guitarist was supposed to join in. But then he broke a string. The singer just continued on solo while the guitarist restrung his guitar. The crowd (25-30 Japanese rock'n'rollers) picked up the slack by clapping out the beat and when the guitar was ready he joined in and immediately cut his finger. Did that stop him? HELL NO! He continued as they punked up the song with blood squirting all over the stage and his guitar neck. TRUE punk rock'n'roll!

The FRANTIC ROMANTIX took the stage and celebrated Emily's (bass player) birthday with a wild punk rock set. Then THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE continued with there month long residency and AGAIN made new converts to the band amongst them Fernando, SUPERVILLAIN's bass player.

When it was time for NYC UNPLUGGED the NEW YORK NO STARS were up to the task of following THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE. With JIMI BONES doing some mean guitar work and Marco sawing away at the cello, MEG's vocals soared thru the room and they won over more converts.

Then for the "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM, Kenn Rowell and Marc from the BAGHDADDIOS were joined by Dave from UNDERSEA EXPLOSION on percussion for a great end of nite jam.

This week coming up on Friday at THE WRECK ROOM we will have MAVEN followed by HOME TO HENRY, ALIEN CANOPY, FRANTIC ROMANTIX, LOVE ETC, and UGLY FRIEND. And DJ Extraordinaire Bobby Lundo will be treating the front room to tunes from his laptop.

On Saturday and Sunday at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens it's time for SAKURA MATSURI which is the Japanese Cherry Blossom festival with music, performance art, martial arts exhibitions and of, the cherry blossoms in full bloom. If you've never been to this, you should give it a try. It's supposed to be a beautiful day and the BBG is a great place to spend it. It's right behind the Brooklyn Museum on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.

Sunday will be an especially wild one at OTTO's starting with THE AMERICAN GRAVEYARD DANCE looking to make up for screwing up their last show (they got lost trying to find Brooklyn - that's why we now have a map showing how to get there on the calendar pages). Then for some wild Zappa-style musical comedy from BAD TEENAGE MOUSTACHE and PROGRESSIVE DEMENTIA. The leaders of these bands have a work-in-progress of a play that will debut this Sunday called CONJOIN US! (something about siamese twins and...?!?!?), but knowing these guys it should be totally outrageous and sure to offend just about anyone who is easily offended. BONGO JONES will follow along with more of THE UNPRONOUNCEABLE and the NEW YORK NO STARS and DEEP INTENT and, of course, another "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM.

Hopefully I'll see you around.

Take care,

WOOD
