HI ALL,

This past week has been stressful with all the heat and the usual city craziness that goes with it.

Luckily I had some interesting shows to offset it all.

On Friday at THE WRECK ROOM we started with the garage rock of THE LIVING PROOF BAND and followed it with the hardcore punk wildness that is JAKHMR HYPOCRYT. As soon as they walked in, each of them grabbed 2 drinks, wolfed 'em down and then started to load in their equipment. THE VELMAS came down from Albany and had everyon astounded by their tight set. F.P. TOZ continued their successful return from cancer removal and are rockin nicely. Then a new band from Pa., FREEDUMB BOMB (I spelled it wrong last week) , came in and KICKED ASS! They will be back!

On Sunday at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD we started off with a Conneticut band, KING SEXY and their style of garage/pop. Then the craziness started with BEN WARREN & HIS FLESHLIGHTS (with 3/5 of GOD-the band) . With their inflatable fan sitting in attendance they cranked out their brand of nutty fun rock. They were followed by FRANKIE & HIS FINGERS as they rocked out propelled by the high energy frontman FRAMKIE and driven by one of THE BEST drummers around today, SAMMI. THE SPRINKLE GENIES were next and did a solid country/anti-folk/punk rock'n'roll set that had the crowd buzzing. Then the premier of CONJOIN US! musical performance piece featuring 2/5 of GOD-the band. These guys in their Siamese twins costume had people rolling on the floor and pissing in their pants. as PAM the METAL QUEEN said "This is SO WRONG but SO FUNNY!" PROGRESSIVE DEMENTIA, our band-in-residence for the month of June, kept up the insanity level with their theme this week being the WORST songs ever. they proceeded to play some really bad but funny songs and then lapsed into their own songs.

The Greek band MAGGES was next and the OUZO started to flow. That means the people started getting wilder. by the time we got to THE NY NO STARS, they decided to forget the unplugged set and just rock out, which they did really, really well. By that point it was getting late, so all that was left to do was to sit around and keep drinking.

This week will be a trying one. I'll be working the real job for 5 days and then on Friday I'll start the weekend with an outrageous punk rock show at THE WRECK ROOM. Leading off will be TEST SPECIMEN followed by THE FUX. Last time here THE FUX lit their guitar on fire and left it to burn on the bar. They'll be followed by I C U, composed of PEE WEE & MIKE owners of PASSOUT RECORDS (a new rock'n'roll video/record/cd store and soon to be recording and rehearsal space. Then the BLACKOUT SHOPPERS (who helped set up the whole night) will lead into the Boston-based band SUZUKI SMITH. Then we'llcap off the night with YO! SCUNT>

On Saturday is the annual MERMAID PARADE out at CONEY ISLAND. If you've never been to this you better go this year because it may be the last one ever (as we know it) . The reason being the corporate suits who are buying up most of the boardwalk would frown HEAVILY on the often lewd, rude and extremely crude debauchery that we have all come to know and love. This is like acid-fueled Halloween in daylight on the boardwalk at CONEY ISLAND. Last year's BEST float was won by OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD. The best band was FUTURE 86 and the King was DAVID JOHANSEN (NEW YORK DOLLS) and the QUEEN was KARMEN GUY/YAFFA (MAD JUANA) . I don't know who this year's king and queen will be but I know OTTO's will have a float and I'll be there!

On Sunday hopefully I will have recovered enough (of course I WILL!) to run the show at OTTO's. it will be led off by SUZUKI SMITH, finishing up their weekend in NYC before going back to Boston. Then it'll be FLACK BLAMINGO,followed by 3 KISSES (Texas) . UZUHI will then play their 3rd unplugged show and fellow Japanese artist KATSUNORI will follow them. PROGRESSIVE DEMENTIA will finish up their residency with the theme being Favorite TV theme songs. FREEDUMB BOMB willplay their 1st show at OTTO's (I told you they'd be back) and a surprise guest will fill in before THE HIILS take the stage.

See ya at the parade.

Take care,

WOOD
