Hey All,

Well, summer's here and gone. It seems to go by quicker every year.

I had a killer weekend despite some piece of shit bands that cancel shows on the day of the show (one with a bogus excuse of a toothache - but couldn't remember whether it was the drummer or the bass player; the other without even calling) WEAK PIECES OF SHIT! I can usually tell when a band is gonna flake, when I don't get an e-mail letting me know of their upcoming show. How STUPID are some people?

Anyway on Friday at BOOGALOO I walked into a sound system disaster but managed to pull it together in time for the show. That's why I'm always there an hour before showtime. PETRO started out nice and strong, the next band (WPOS) was good but they were bitching before they even got to the show. THE DOSE played a little too loud for the room. I like loud but sometimes you defeat yopurself if no one can understand what the hell you're saying. Finally YUKINAO ended the night on an excellent musical note. It was miserable out so we just called it an early nite.

On Saturday at CLUB MIDWAY, NEUF NEUF 9 started the evening off great and from what I heard everyone had a good show. I had to leave because I had to work.

On Sunday, I get woke up at 10am by the weak piece of shit band saying their bass player's tooth had gotten worse. On Friday it was the drummer's tooth, or so they told me, but on Sat. nite I was hanging with both of them and they seemed all right to me!? Anyway, TEST SPECIMEN started the nite at OTTO's with a KICK ASS set and played a little longer because the 2nd band didn't show, or call or anything. WPOS! BATZ then took the stage and played a hell of a set. THE HELLFIRE BOYS CLUB did another killer set followed by the LOVE PIRATES. Those guys never fail to get the crowd going and will continue to do so every Sunday this month. F.P. TOZ did a good set as the last minute substitute for the WPOS band with the toothache. (Didn't they ever hear of ambesol, advil and vodka in Virginia?) Then it was time to celebrate JOE BENDIK's birthday and he turned in a virtuoso performance (even though he refused to tell us his age). JAMES DOWER was next and did a nice acoustic set and then it was time for a very special "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM with WILD BILL THOMPSON on guitar, SUSAN MITCHELL on violin, PHIL McGAUGH on bass and KENN ROWELL on vocals and general witty banter in between. At around 2am a bunch of people came by after seeing THE CRAMPS at the MOTHERFUCKER party. SASQUATCH from SASQUATCH and the SICKABILLIES and a crew of beautiful women were amongst them and before you know it SASQUATCH is up on stage with WILD BILL and the crew belting out a few songs. He then introduced me to some friends of his from L.A., BAMBULA, who had just done the DROP DEAD FEASTIVAL(in L.A. on Fri. and in NYC on Sun.) and they said they had heard about OTTO's and had wanted to play there, so, they did. They had the place going nuts. We didn't finish til around 3:30am. Ah, the beauty of OTTO's on a Sunday nite. You never know what kind of insanity will occur, but you know it will be FUN!

On Monday I went to the WEST INDIAN DAY PARADE in Brooklyn and stuffed my face with GREAT food and filled my soul with awesome music. Not what I usually listen to but a nice change of pace.

This weekend I only have one show of my own but on Friday I will be headed to CB's GALLERY to catch LENNY KAYE, MAD JUANA, ventriloquist CARLA RHODES and the Greeks - MAGGES with JAMEELA bellydancing. It starts at 10 if you want something fun to do.

On Sunday it'll be another WIND DOWN SUNDAY at OTTO's and it will have the r&b of DEEP INTENT, a blast from the past - early punk rockers THE CATHOLIC GIRLS, THE CREAMSICLES (who have been getting airplay on Q104), RICK HORNYAK in from Texas, more LOVE PIRATES, the FINAL SHOW in NYC of BONGO JONES (the bass player's getting married, so they are going to regroup as something else) NEUF NEUF 9 will be there as will ACID RAYZ, KATSUNORI and of course THE "SOFA KING" WILDE JAM. Hope you can make it.

Monday is 9/11 and I still feel that what I wrote back then for another website conveys my feelings on the subject, now more than ever. Please read it and let me know what you think.

Hope to see ya soon.

Take care,

WOOD
