Hi All,

This week there is a GREAT article in the VILLAGE VOICE written by LENNY KAYE about the closing of CBGB's, also one about CONTINENTAL's closing, but the one by LENNY is a MUST READ! Go out and get it, read it and realizewhat you missed and will be missing!

Speaking of LENNY KAYE, last Friday he did a show at CB's GALLERY with MAGGES & JAMEELA, CARLA RHODES and MAD JUANA. His set was excellent as usual but later on he joined MAD JUANA and it was AMAZING! It was an awesome night with THE AVENGERS, ICU and some other bands in the main room and a benefit for GEORGE TABB downstairs with TEST SPECIMEN, WWIX, CHARM SCHOOL and a host of others emceed by VANESSA, DAUGHTER OF SATAN. It was a great night of rock'n'roll and soon there will be no more CB's.

On Sunday at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD we started off with the r&b of DEEP INTENT. These guys have been buikding a fan base with their shows at OTTO's. They come early and stay later, mingling with the other bands, making connections and friends along the way. That is what the Sundays at OTTO's are about. Spreading the music around and getting it out there. Next up were THE CATHOLIC GIRLS and they rocked like the've been rockin' for close to 20 years. Then KIP ELBAUM brought in RICKHORNYAK from Texas and those boys showed that their is some good rock outside of NYC. The next band cancelled because they thought they deserved more than 30 minutes to play. Well, when LENNY KAYE plays at my shows at OTTO's he plays for 30 minutes just like everyone else (until the crowd asks for more). When that band gets to that level, then we'll acknoledge them as such. By their not showing it allowed the boys from Texas a little more time and they won a lot of new friends with it. they ended up hanging almost all night. the LOVE PIRATES continued their superb residency with their usual raucus set and were followed by BONGO JONES. It was BONGO's last NYC show before the dissolution of the band (bass player is getting married and leaving the band), but they will regroup and be back with a new bass player, new songs and a new name. They went out on top with a kick-assset and we will miss them. NEUF NEUF NINE was next and this new band keeps getting better all the time. They'll be playing in the unenviable slot after BANANA FISH ZERO on friday at the CONTINENTAL. ACID RAYZ did another astounding set and KATSUNORI wound up the evenig with a bluesy set.

This week on Friday will be the reunion of BANANA FISH ZERO at the CONTINENTAL. It will be GREAT! On Saturday will be the INDIAN LARRY MEMORIAL Block party on N.14th street in Williamsburg with SEA MONSTER performing at 5:30pm. It is not to be missed.

On Sunday the CONTINENTAL will be doing it's FINAL show and it will have C.J. RAMONE and friends, HANDSOME DICK MANITOBA and friends, LENNY KAYE and friends along with THE BULLYS and CHARM SCHOOL. THANK YOU TRIGGER for letting us have a GREAT place to do shows. Also to his staff, especially NOEL the sound guy. That man made almost everyone sound like gold record makers. THANK YOU everyone at CONTINENTAL!

I have a show at OTTO's on Sunday with DEAD LIZARD, HOME TO HENRY, FLACK BLAMINGO, PARANOID LARRY & HIS IMAGINARY BAND, LOVE PIRATES, SHOWIN TELL, RIVERCAT, VALERIE GEFFNER and T. J. JORDAN. Ifyou can't get in to CONTINENTAL come by because alot of them will be coming to OTTO's after it's over.

Remember to go out and support your favorite bands and LIVE venues or soon other clubs will follow CBGB's and CONTINENTAL into the past. READ the LENNY KAYE article in the VOICE, he says it so much better than I could ever hope to.

And check out my photos (finally) of last month's Johnnylawpalooza party!

Hope to see you soon.

Take care,

WOOD
